The Urban Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering Research Institute of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology is a research institute affiliated with the Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering College of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology. It focuses on conducting research on core scientific and technological issues, such as hydrological and hydraulic algorithms, models, high-end sensors, aiming to develop water resources and hydraulic calculation software as well as high-end sensors with complete independent intellectual property rights owned by China. The institute aims to establish a high-level scientific research platform and talent training base in the fields of hydrological and hydraulic algorithms, sensors through actively constructing domestic and international exchange platforms while continuously enhancing its academic influence. This is done in order to serve the modernization of water conservancy practices along with regional sustainable development.
The institute collaboratively establishes the "Sino-German Urban Water Resources 4.0 Laboratory" with Germany's IKT (Institute for Underground Infrastructure). It boasts a 5,000-square-meter indoor smart water resources experiment testing platform along with a 2.5-square-kilometer underground pipe network monitoring base. The institute consists of six research teams specializing in water literature models, hydraulic models, fluid mechanics (including multiphase flow), numerical solutions, hardware development, overall integration/application respectively. Additionally it has established a "one room four centers" structure which includes: the 4.0 laboratory for urban water resources; big data center for urban water resources; high-end equipment manufacturing center; certification/testing center; talent training center respectively.
